Whether it be the memes of flying chappals or those slaps across the face or having being beaten from a broomstick, listening to the stories of a normal day in the Indian household, you’ll notice how much child abuse has been normalized as a way for disciplining kids.
It has been internalized to the extent that majority of people are proud to have been through it and are continuing the toxic traits with their offsprings ignoring the effects that these verbal and physical abuse cause, both mentally and emotionally. Also this cycle of abuse continues in the adulthood and the degree of abuse and diversity in the ways is even more alarming.
Consequently, there are no stringent laws to protect the children from mistreatment from the family rather in case of approaching law maintaining authorities they’d be ridiculed. They’re expected to go through these without rebelling or opposing their abusers and to stay silent all through the ordeal. The only kind of child abuse that is considered preposterous is sexual abuse and the rest is considered to be positive reinforcement. This results in emotionally traumatized adults who themselves are unaware and hence, devoid of therapy.
